Environment

Transparent Statement:
I am a tree hugger.

Yes, I am a tree hugger. I am a longtime member of the Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club and Greenpeace. I volunteered for the Sierra Club for the hearings about the proposed coal export terminal in Cherry Point. I was even once awarded a provisional patent on an idea for a water-saving device, and the company was going to be called Go Hug a Tree.

Despite the current obsessive focus on climate change, there is much more to the environment than just carbon pollution. There is air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, habitat loss, and the loss of open spaces for children (and adults) to be able to explore, enjoy and learn about nature.

As a business person, I also recognize there needs to be a balance between protecting the environment and supporting jobs. But no job is worth poisoning ourselves, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.
